- Longford Community School (Outstanding):
Longford Cycle scheme which encompasses: staff pool bikes, bike club for pupils, training and maintenance sessions and links with a local bike shop. They were shortlisted by the LCC for this scheme in 2010. - Norwood Green Juniors School (Outstanding):
JRSO's created a walking zone map for parents to show them the benefits of walking with helpful (e.g. crossings) and hazardous (e.g. cracked pavement) points to help encourage walking all the way and part of the way through park and stride. - Strand-on-the-Green Infants & Nursery School (Outstanding):
The first school in London to actively promote scooting to school and run scooting proficiency lessons, inspired the Royal Borough of Kensingtonn & Chelsea to start a similar scheme called 'scoot surfers'. - Strand-on-the-Green Juniors School (Outstanding):
Sustainable travel has become an integral part of the curriculum with Year 3 discussing road safety, Year 5 having to plan a sustainable route to school and Year 6 running the Upgrade transition module about traveling to their chosen secondary school. They work very closeley witht he Infants running joint bike & scooter breakfasts which are hugeley successful. - Belmont Primary (Higher):
JRSO's took part in a traffic monitoring exercise from 8.30-9am monitoring the numbers of cars parked dangerously and speaking to parents about parking safely. - Cardinal Road Infants & Nursery (Higher):
Scooter proficiency skills lessons created by the Travel Plan Champion to help educate their pupils about road safety and scooting etiquette. - Cranford Infants & Nursery (Higher):
Lessons promote sustainable travel and scooting is encouraged, with new storage being installed to meet demand. - Feltham Hill Juniors (Higher):
Designing Helmet project carried out in design and technology class and advertised through the newsletter. JRSOs set up a stand at the sumer fair to promote the green cross code. - Grove Park Primary (Higher):
Transport planning / area environment surveys carried out during lessons by linking into key curriculum objectives. Maps showing postcode plots prominently displayed to encourage walking. - Hounslow Heath Juniors (Higher):
JRSOs actively encourage pupils to walk and cycle and carry out various challenges to raise the profile of the travel plan. - Hounslow Town (Higher):
Partnership with Sustrans to run Bike It which has resulted in an increae in pupils cycling. Bike marshals are responsible for bike counts and rewarding regular cyclists. - Lampton Road (Higher):
Year 7 pupils carried out an environmental survey of the routes to school to point out any hazrads and safe places to cross. - Our Lady and St. John's Primary School (Higher):
School council involved in thinking of innovative ways to encourage walking, during walk to school week they organised a walking bus and also had a trainers day on friday for pupils who walked to school every day that week. - Springwell Juniors School (Higher):
Wrote a leaflet promoting walkind with quotes from their fellow students and asked the STA to get it translated into 4 different languages to hand out to parents who dont speak english. - The Rosary Catholic School (Higher):
Staff car sharing heavily promoted, with priority car parking spaces offereed to those who car share with at least 2 people. Headteacher has written to parents asking them not to park so close to the school. - Wellington Primary School (Higher):
Regular JRSO newsletters to pupils and parents with a road safety and sustainable transport section a permanent feature. JRSOs work with PCSOs to monitor parents parking. JRSOs were asked to specially design the end of year Pelican newsletter which is handed out to all schools in the borough. - Cranford Community School (Sustainable):
Ran a tailor made bus behaviour workshop in partnership with the Riot Act to help teach pupils about bus etiquette. Run termly walk and cycle to school weeks to encourage sustainable travel.
